Abstract
|
Benz[a]anthracene (B[a]A) is one of the most ubiquitous polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and environmental pollutants. Mass spectrometrybased proteomics was used to characterize changes in the liver proteome in response to B[a]A exposure. Nine hepatic protein spots were identified that exhibited B[a]A-induced significant expression changes. Of these, six were up-regulated and the rest were downregulated by B[a]A at 10% of its LD50. At 50% of the LD50 of B[a]A, five proteins were up-regulated while the rest were down-regulated. The proteomic results were also consistent with those obtained by western blot. The differential expressions of these proteins may allow them to serve as biomarker candidates for B[a]A toxicity. |
