Abstract We discuss the importance of active biomolecular transportation in nanoscale biosensors. Simulation results based on finite element method show the effect of electrostatic field driven by molecular transportation, and indicate that active driving force is necessary for efficient biomolecular detection in sample solution with low target concentration. Our numerical model provides a guideline to design nanoscale biosensors by considering various design parameters such as electric field intensity, molecular concentration, and sensor size.
